Mountain bikes are specifically meant for uneven and rocky terrains. These extra grip and shock absorbing mountain bicycles are offered with fat knobby tires. There are also different types of mountain bicycles. The cross-country variety has a small amount of suspension on the front or on the rear. These bicycles are reasonably lighter because they are constructed with lightweight materials both in the frame construction and in components. Some XC bikes of this particular type are without any suspension. They make use of a rigid front fork that assists in saving weight.

Free ride mountain bikes are very much similar to enduro bikes. These bikes rely more on weight and enhanced suspension, and they actually have a lot of suspension.
