Suspension is important on mountain bikes and it is also important for you to understand what the suspension actually does.

If you are looking into taking up mountain biking then you may be a little confused by the different bikes available. Some are bigger than others, some weigh more than others and some have suspensions and some do not. How do you know which type of bike to go for and does suspension really make a difference to a bike?

No matter whether you choose a bike with or without suspensions, you will still get where you want to go. Obviously a bike with suspensions is going to cost you more money, but is this money worth it?

The main purpose of mountain bike suspensions is to absorb any shocks that the bike may endure whilst you are riding it. For example if you are riding along a rocky terrain then you are likely to find that your bike will bounce a lot more as it goes over he rocky surface. Without suspension, the bike could be extremely uncomfortable to ride and it could also be damaged because of the shocks absorbed by the bike. With suspension it tends to absorb the shock and therefore there is less chance of the bike becoming damaged and you will also not find it as uncomfortable either.

Now even once you have decided that you are going to have mountain bike suspension, you could still find it difficult to choose the right bike for you. Overall even though you can purchase bikes without suspension, it is always better to purchase a bike with at least front wheel suspension. This is because it absorbs shocks and makes the bike easier to control.
