Customising Your BMX by James Dacanay
Like most things in life, when it comes to BMX bikes, it is the little things that are important. Getting the most out of your BMX is directly affected by how much you put it. That includes your time and energy, but also what you put in â or rather on â to the bike itself. A cheap BMX will get you started on the road to becoming a pro, but as you learn, it is time to turn that cheap BMX into something a little more special.
For those advanced riders, building a bike from scratch to suit very personal specifications is normal procedure, but for those still finding their feet, or wheels, modifying an existing bike will ensure you can try new tricks and new stunts and advance your own capabilities all the time.
Customisations arenât all about looks. While it is nice to have your own individual style, the important modifications come down to the bikeâs more technical specifications.
As you become more experienced, you will notice what is holding you back and what small adjustment will aid your potential ability. Also customising your own BMX will most likely be a cheaper alternative to buying extremely high end BMX bikes, which still might not quite satisfy your own particular needs. The great thing about BMXs themselves is their high-level of customisation with the addition or removal of everything from pegs and forks to breaks and grips, offering you new options and possibilities all the time.
Finding the right way to customise canât be taught, but getting advice from the experts can certainly help a novice understand their options and learn how these subtle changes can have a massive impact on the way you ride. But from there, it all comes down to working out exactly what is right for you.
